Today the North Carolina Pandemic Recovery Office (NCPRO) released the first in a series of online surveys to over 10,000 businesses, seeking feedback on the unique challenges, opportunities, and economic conditions that business leaders experience at the local level. The NC Business Engagement Survey, which is conducted by researchers at East Carolina University, will continue to solicit responses quarterly to track changing conditions and identify regional trends. NCPRO will share the data publicly to help policymakers, industry groups, and legislators better support businesses and respond to their evolving needs.

“North Carolina’s economy emerged from the pandemic stronger than ever, but COVID-19 changed the business landscape,” says NCPRO Executive Director Stephanie McGarrah. “This survey will help us continue to lead and make data-driven decisions.”

The NC Business Engagement Survey is comprised of businesses of all sizes and sectors, from retail to manufacturing, in every region of the state. It includes questions on several topics vital to a successful business environment such as access to a skilled workforce, infrastructure, and supply chains, as well as issues that impact employees, including childcare and affordable housing.

“If you lead a North Carolina business, we want to hear from you,” says NCPRO Senior Economic Advisor Jim Kleckley, Ph.D. “This is your opportunity to advocate for your industry and help guide decision making.”

The NC Business Engagement Survey is funded by a federal grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration.

How to join the survey

Business leaders, including managers, directors, CEOs, and presidents, who have not already received a survey via email are invited to join at ncpro.nc.gov/BusinessSurvey.
